How Unearth works, tab by tab, and the questions people ask most.
How to use Unearth
Install Unearth from the App Store and open it. There is no account to create. Roman, the cloud, says hello and asks a few quick questions: your first name, where you are in your faith, what you hope to get from the app, and whether you want a daily reminder. Your answers stay on your phone and only shape what the app shows you.
After that you choose a plan. Free has everything you need to learn Scripture; Supporter adds unlimited saved verses and family profiles. You can change your mind later from the Account tab.
Unearth has four tabs along the bottom: Bible, Verses, Swipe and Account. The Bible tab is home: your streak for the week, a button into the Bible, where you left off reading, and today's Verse of the Day.
Tap Read the Bible on the home tab, pick a book and a chapter, and read. Unearth comes with the whole Bible in three translations: the Berean Standard Bible (the default), the World English Bible and the King James Version.
Tap Memorize on any verse to save it. Saved verses live on the Verses tab, each with its own practice history. Tap one to see the full passage, your average score and attempts, and the practice buttons.
Every saved verse has three practice tools. Each asks a little more of you, and together they take a verse from "I recognize it" to "I can say it from the heart."
Grading is fair, not fussy: capitalization, punctuation and small slips in pronunciation don't count against you. Missing or wrong words do, and Unearth shows you each one. Every round ends with a scorecard and a one-tap Try again.
Tip: start a new verse with Fill It In, move to Type It Out once it feels familiar, and finish with Recite & Reveal.
Reading, saving and practicing all earn XP. The daily goal is 50 XP, reachable in one or two rounds. Hit it and the day counts toward your streak; do it again tomorrow and the streak grows. Finishing a practice earns XP whatever the score, and a score of 95% or better earns a Word Perfect bonus on top. Your streak and lifetime XP are on the Account tab, and tapping them opens your history.
The Swipe tab is a feed of hand-picked verses, one at a time. Swipe up for the next. Tap play to hear the verse read aloud, word by word. Tap Add Memory Verse to save it to your Verses tab, and the arrow button to open it in its chapter.
At the bottom of the home tab is the Verse of the Day, a new verse each morning. Tap the expand button to see it full screen, save it, or share it. You can have it delivered to your lock screen each morning as a reminder (see below).
Unearth has two optional daily reminders, set from Account › Notifications:
Both are local notifications scheduled on your phone, so they work without an internet connection. If none arrive, check that Unearth is allowed to notify you in the iPhone Settings app and that no Focus mode is silencing it.
Each profile keeps its own saved verses, progress, highlights and streak, all on the same phone and still without an account. Switch profiles by tapping your name at the top of the Account tab. The Free plan has one profile; Supporter allows up to four.
Supporter is an optional weekly subscription, $1.99 a week through the App Store. It has the same tools as Free, plus unlimited saved verses and up to four profiles, and it keeps Unearth independent: no ads, no selling data, ever. Supporters also get a membership card on the Account tab.
The Account tab has a light/dark toggle (or follow the system), the Bible translation, narrator voices for Swipe, reminders, and your highlights. Under Settings you can turn haptics off, rename or delete a profile, and erase a profile's verses and history.
Your verses, progress, XP and streaks live on your iPhone and nowhere else. Deleting the app deletes them; there is no server copy. Moving to a new iPhone with an iCloud backup or Quick Start brings everything along. The only thing Unearth sends us is anonymous usage statistics, spelled out in the Privacy Policy.
Questions
Yes. Everything you need to learn Scripture is free, with no time limit: the whole Bible in three translations, all three practice tools, XP, streaks and reminders, with up to 10 saved verses at a time and one profile. Supporter is for people who want to go further, or simply want to keep Unearth going. It adds unlimited saved verses and up to four profiles for $1.99 a week, cancel anytime.
No, and that is the best part. There is no email, no password, no verification code, no "create a profile" screen standing between you and the Word. Your verses, progress and streaks live on your iPhone, not on our servers, so there is no account to be hacked, leaked or sold. Profiles let several people keep their own verses on one device, still without an account.
Unearth treats a miss as the next thing to learn, not a failure. A wrong tap or a missed word is marked in place, with the right word shown, so the correction lands while the verse is still in front of you. Every round ends with a percentage and the words you missed, and finishing earns XP whatever the score. Sort your verses by lowest average to see which ones need another pass.
Memory is built by coming back, and Unearth is built around that. Short daily rounds beat an hour once a week, and the 50 XP goal keeps the habit light. The three tools climb from recognizing a verse to saying it from the heart. Swipe and the Verse of the Day keep fresh Scripture in front of you, and every verse opens in its full chapter, because a verse you understand is a verse you keep.
The Berean Standard Bible, the World English Bible and the King James Version, all of them complete and all offline. The translation you choose applies everywhere in the app, and you can compare a passage across all three from the reader.
Unearth is built for iPhone and needs iOS 26 or later. It installs on iPad and runs in iPhone layout. There is no Android version. If that changes, we'll say so on the homepage first.
